RETROFIT GUIDE FOR KE60 –
[email protected] After successfully retrofitting remote locking to the Skoda Fabia, I was asked to prepare a guide for the Octavia. PLEASE NOTE: THIS GUIDE IS FOR 1999 OCTAVIA. 1997, 1998, 2002’S will probably work fine with this guide, although disassembly might be slightly different. Do not use for an OCTAVIA 2. The kit used in this guide was KE60 from rclick.co.uk. I decided to use this kit as it provides 2x folding keys which replicate the exact keys as the Octavia. Here’s the project car, T Reg Octavia, (and my last project Fabia in the background) REVISION A When I originally created this guide, I forgot to include a wiring diagram for the kit. The original guide missed out two wires also. Here is the guide for the 1999 Skoda Octavia. I do also have all wiring diagrams for all other incarnations of the Octavia, so if you need them, just ask. Without further ado: Before you start taking your car to pieces, follow the diagram above. Therefore: Locate your Black wire. You need to splice TWO cables into this black wire to make the locking mechanism work. Take your black wire and with the provided splicers, splice the YELLOW & BLACK and the YELLOW cable into the BLACK cable. Make sure you use pliers on the splicers to get a good connection. If you find the door locks aren’t working make sure these splices are done correctly. On my first install I had this exact problem so check with a multimeter if you’re unsure. That’s it – lets take the car apart. DASH REMOVAL - Begin by dismantling the interior. Under the speedos etc, there are 2 torx screws (you need to use a small screwdriver to prise the poppers out first. This will allow access to the screws. Pull off the surround towards you. (Use a Torx 25 screwdriver). Next, remove the screws to the lower panel. There are 3 hidden screws to remove. The first is behind the light switch. Take a screwdriver (flat head) and gently prise out the unit, as shown below. It takes a bit of effort, so don’t be afraid! Once out, you will see a hidden screw to remove. Take off the fuse box cover with a flat head screwdriver to prise it off. The light switch should now be removed (unplug the two connectors). Remove the torx screws from underneath the dash (2 screws). A small panel needs to be removed too (see below), it just clips out. Where the cover was moved before, remove all 4 torx screws. The fuse box has larger gauge of screw, and it pops out. This will allow you to pull the dash off. NOTE: Careful of the purple VAGCOM terminal and pop this out before putting the dash to one side! ELECTRICS – The earth can be connected to a bolt to the right of the car as shown. BLACK WIRE The live RED cable goes just left of the earth, you can use a spade to the wire, but I just screwed it in to the existing bolt. The indicators (two brown). Prise off the Octavia badge Prise out the button as the same way before. Using the provided red plastic connectors, connect one brown and one black/green, then the other brown and black/white. They are the two in the middle at the top of the switch. Put this all back together (reverse of before)! In the 23 pin connector wire pin 2 with the white & black and pin 4 with white. This is your open and close. I took one cable from the rclick loom, stripped it, twisted it and pushed it into the back of the 23 pin plug. Then using insulation tape, I taped it to the other wires from the plug. This saves tricky connections/soldering! On the bottom left of the dash is the perfect place for the receiver. Place is as shown and tie it down with a zip lock, or strong double-sided tape. Plug in the loom connector to the receiver and neatly tie up all of the cables with insulation tape. Put everything back together (reverse of before), and you’re done. Easiest car yet!If you have any questions, e-mail the address above! Jon
