In other words, the 356, 914 and 911 up to and including Types 964 and 993, as well as four and eightcylinder Porsche road vehicles such as the 924, 928, 944 and 968. Porsche  Classic now also covers the Porsche Boxster (Type 986) and the Porsche 911 (Type 996). A detailed overview of the models we cater for can be found on the following pages. With an uprated VW engine delivering 26 kW (35 hp; at 4,000 rpm) and weigh- ing in at 585 kg, this lightweight midengined sports car reached a top speed of 135 km/h. The ‘Gmünd roadster’ was followed by produc tion cars with a displace ment of up to 2 litres and an output of 96 kW (130 hp). Around 78,000 examples of the 356 model were produced in Stuttgart between 1950 and 1965. Co-produced with VW and priced below the 911, the 914 was launched in 1969. This mid engined sports car featured a removable roof and a four cylinder fuelinjected engine. 13,312 units of this model were sold in 1970 alone. The uprated 9146 version was fitted with the 2litre sixcylinder engine of the 911 T. 924924 928928 13 924 Production period: 1976 – 1988 Number of examples produced: 150,684 Available part numbers: 4,200 The 924 was the first Porsche to feature a transaxle layout with a watercooled frontmounted engine and a gearbox on the rear axle. 928 Production period: 1977 – 1995 Number of examples produced: 61,056 Available part numbers: 8,500 Alongside the 911 Turbo, the large 928 ‘sports tourer’ was the most expensive Porsche production car. In addition to an alloy V8 engine and aluminium chassis, innovations on the luxury Gran Turismo included a rear suspension known as the ‘Weissach axle’. The result: improved cornering characteristics and directional stability during load changes. 944944 968968 14 944 Production period: 1982 – 1991 Number of examples produced: 163,302 Available part numbers: 6,200 The 944 – an aerodynamically enhanced 2+2-seater – quickly developed a large fan base. “At the heart of the 944 is a sensationally smoothrunning, cultured engine whose economic efficiency will bring tears to the eyes of oil moguls”, stated Motor magazine in a test report. The transaxle configuration already familiar from the 924 and 928 ensured excellent handling. 968 Production period: 1992 – 1995 Number of examples produced: 11,248 Available part numbers: 5,900 The successor to the 944, the 968 was offered as a Coupé and Cabriolet. Further development of the transaxle layout resulted in outstanding response and low fuel consumption. At that time, the 968 was regarded as the fourcylinder with the highest torque and displacement in its class. 911911 911911 17 911 Production period: 1964 – 1973 Number of examples produced: 81,100 Available part numbers: 3,500 911 Production period: 1974 – 1989 Number of examples produced: 196,397 Available part numbers: 7,100 The 911 is the most famous Porsche sports car, regarded by many as the epitome of the marque. It was originally premi ered as the 901. However, a French manufacturer claimed copyright over the use of all model numbers with zero in the Typical features on the Porsche known as the G-Model included striking safety bumpers. The Porsche 911 was also pioneering in terms of occupant safety: it featured a modernised interior, oriented towards safety with shock-absorbing steering wheel, middle. In 1964, Porsche therefore changed the name from 901 to 911, after which it was also known as the F-Model. Nevertheless, 82 examples of the 901 Coupé had already been sold by this point. retractable threepoint seat belts and integrated headrests. Thanks to KJetronic fuel injection, the 2.7litre engines offered a signifi cant reduction in exhaust and noise emissions. 959959 18 19 959 Production period: 1987 – 1988 Number of examples produced: 292 Available part numbers: 2,300 Based on the existing 911 model, the technologically advanced 959 was produced in an exclusive series of 292 examples. From the twinturbo boxer engine with watercooled fourvalve cylinder heads and electronically con trolled chassis, to the allwheel drive system and aerodynamic ally enhanced body, this model was used by Porsche to demon strate everything that was technically feasible in automotive engineering at the time. Despite a price tag of DM 420,000, the 959 quickly sold out. 964964 993993 20 964 Production period: 1988 – 1994 Number of examples produced: 63,762 Available part numbers: 5,900 The 964 was the successor to the Porsche 911 GModel. New features included a regulated catalytic converter, power steering and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). The engine output of the 964 ranged from 184 kW (250 hp) on the 911 Carrera models to 265 kW (360 hp) on the 911 Turbo. 993 Production period: 1993 – 1998 Number of examples produced: 68,881 Available part numbers: 6,600 The successor to the 964, the 993 was the last model of the classic Porsche 911 series to feature an aircooled boxer engine. Parts of the critical areas of the 993 body were made using highstrength steels. In contrast to the 964, engine features now included an engine management system and a twin exhaust system with two separ ate metal catalytic converters. 986986 996996 23 986 Production period: 1997 – 2004 Number of examples produced: 164,874 Available part numbers: 8,400 996 Production period: 1998 – 2005 Number of examples produced: 175,262 Available part numbers: 13,500 From September 1996, the Porsche Boxster set a new benchmark in performance and safety in the opentop sports car segment. The roadster combined the exceptional driving dynamics of a sports car with unrestricted everyday practicality. In 1997, Porsche introduced a completely new 911. With its classic style, the body was larger and the suspension further improved. In addition, the model was equipped with a more powerful version of the new watercooled, sixcylinder boxer engine. An innovative kinematic system enabled the electrically powered roof to open and close in just 12 seconds – an unrivalled feat. The Boxster distinguished itself from its fiercest competitors with its midengined concept and typical Porsche sixcylinder boxer engine. 24 25 Porsche Classic sets a worldwidestandard. At Porsche, tradition means recognising your roots and then taking things one step forward. For us, tradition and innovation have always been closely linked. That’s why over 70 percent of all Porsche vehicles ever built are still on the road today, and the fascinating appeal of the brand is being adding to further still. Porsche Classic is dedicated to supporting the longevity of classic models. Approximation: based on photos, our Porsche Classic specialists draw up an initial estimate of the cost of restoring your classic Porsche. After deciding if you’re inter ested in continuing, the vehicle is examined in the Porsche Classic workshop. If requested, Porsche Classic can arrange for the vehicle to be transported to Stuttgart directly from your home using trusted worldwide logistics partners. In the work shop, experts then evaluate the cost of restoration as precisely as possible. Each area is estimated separately: engine and transmis sion, electrics, chassis, body, paintwork and interior. 2.Vehicledelivery. Review of the situation: experts meticulously examine the vehicle with you. On site in Stuttgart, the scope of the required work is discussed and defined. 3.Disassembly. For a full restoration, the vehicle is completely disassembled and all parts are removed from the bodyshell, from the engine to the interior equipment. This is the only way to clearly determine the condition of the classic vehicle. 4.Engineandgearbox. To ensure smooth running: the function and authenticity of the engine and transmission undergo a thorough check. If necessary, both are completely disassembled and cleaned. Defective parts are replaced with original parts or parts that have been fabricated based on original drawings. The specifications originally deter mined by the factory are used as the basis for the engine settings. The engine’s performance is then measured during a test run on the engine test bench. The results are documented and dis played in a diagram. In this way, the engine and transmission are restored to their original state – both visually and technically. Porsche Classic also offers the option of just having the engine and transmis sion restored, so that your classic vehicle runs smoothly again. 11 22 333 44 32 33 5.Bodywork. Craftsmanship throughout: after our specialists have removed most of the corrosion from the bodyshell, they open all the cavities – a necessary step in preparation for the paint removal bath. The frame is precisely aligned on the benchtype straightening system, using frame gauges for the doors and windows that originate back to the production of today’s classic car. If necessary, experienced mechanics reshape deformed areas. Extremely corroded areas are cut out of the body and replaced with new genuine parts. The ‘trial assembly’ that follows is also performed meticulously. The unprimed body is completely assembled on the straightening system. Gap dimensions and functions (such as shutting of the doors, engine lid and luggage compartment lid) are checked and optimally adjusted. The parts are then removed once more so that they can undergo further processing. 6.Cataphoreticpainting andpaintshop. Protection and beauty: your classic Porsche has more now than when it was brand new. Today, the bodyshell is immersed in a cataphoretic bath. The cata phoretic bath ensures that the primer is evenly applied, even to the most remote cavity. Epoxy resin dissolved in water produces a conductive paint. When an anode is immersed in the bath, the bodyshell acts as a cathode and a direct current is generated. This causes paint particles to adhere evenly and securely to the body and to all cavities, providing a high degree of corrosion protec tion. Afterwards, the complete paint buildup in the original colour begins. 7. Interior. Where you feel at home: now, the experts are open to discuss matters of pure taste. After all, the interior is a matter of the heart. Our specialists can either upgrade the interior or complete ly restore it using materials of the same high quality as those used originally. There’s endless potential here to use your imagin ation and be creative. Our experts will do their utmost to fulfil your every wish. 8. Completion. Roadworthy: your classic Porsche is now as pristine as it was when it first left the factory, but it is not quite ready to be handed back to you yet. During extended test drives, several experts check the function of the engine and transmission, listen for any wind noise and carefully inspect the chassis and paint work. Only once our specialists are satisfied, can you be reunited with your valued com panion – along with a high-quality book containing complete docu mentation of the restoration pro cess, a CD with approx. 1,000 pictures and a certificate. 555 666 77 888 34 35 Porsche ClassicGenuineParts. Porsche has timeless appeal. On the following pages, we present a selection of product highlights and new parts editions. 39 Porsche911bodyand lightweightcomponents. Optimum adaptation to the body is an important aspect of Porsche quality. Even the second skin has to fit like a glove. Down to the millimetre. Using extensive measures, the experts at Porsche  Classic have managed to achieve significant quality improvements in the manufacturing of wings and side panels for the Porsche 911 (1965–1994). This means that it is possible to produce new editions of the thin sheet metal parts of the legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7, of which only a total of 1,580 units were produced in 1972 and 1973. Original hub cap. The original of the 1980s is back. Porsche Classic has managed to reproduce the hub cap from the ‘Porsche Sonderwunsch pro gramm’ (range of special option al extras) from the 1980s. Its special feature is the embossed, full-colour Porsche Crest. This extraordinary item at the centre of the Fuchs wheel is now avail able at your Porsche Centre. In collaboration with the former supplier, the hub cap is manufac tured by following the original production steps. Naturally, this new edition part has to meet the same high quality standards as the original genuine part. The hub cap passed the crosscut test with ease. In this process, the hub cap is cut down to the sub strate to create a lattice pattern. In order to sustainably improve the dimensional accuracy of the parts and thereby make it easier to adapt these to the vehicle, Porsche Classic has redefined each production step. The original series production tools have also been redesigned and optimised. New testing devices are being used. For example, each of the 30 or so wing variations has been installed for trialling on a vehicle or on a testing device. In addition, each process step – including the elaborate crafts manship used on the surface finish – is docu ment ed to ensure a consistently high level of quality. Then, a standardised adhesive tape is bonded to the grid sur face, pressed down and then peeled off within a set time and at a set angle. Due to the high quality of the Porsche Classic hub cap, there is no peeling or flaking of the surface. This means that the hub cap is fit for purpose for the next 30 years.
