Structural and organic growth, including the introduction of the former EADS/LFK of Germany within the group and the acquisition of the ramjet technology skills of Bayern Chemie, has resulted in a multinational company employing 9,500 people (60% of whom are engineers) and serving over 90 customers around the world. In-house skills cover all aspects of missile system design, development and production including seekers, guidance and propulsion systems, command and control, platform integration and testing. MBDA is the first truly integrated defence company in Europe and the only Company able to provide guided weapon systems for each branch of the Armed Forces – whether in the air, at sea or on land. Though the Company’s weapon systems have been developed with European requirements in mind, these requirements, focussing on national defence rather than wide-ranging global operations, are identical to those of many other countries. As a result, MBDA has been successfully working in partnership with customers on every continent. MBDA is also continuing its drive towards further optimisation of its industrial set-up and product offer to better meet the evolving operational requirements of both its domestic and export customers. In addition, the Company is also strategically placed to advance and develop transatlantic cooperation with the USA. 6 MBDA MEETING OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, IN THE AIR, ON LAND, AT SEA • Air Dominance MBDA either equips or is scheduled to equip many of the world’s current and future aircraft (such as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter) with air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons. Meteor, MICA, ASRAAM, Storm Shadow / SCALP, Taurus KEPD 350 are just some of the weapon systems that have forged MBDA’s reputation as a world leader in the air dominance sector • Ground Based Air defence MBDA’s technology has been combined with its advanced understanding of air defence architectures. Aster SAMP/T, VL MICA, Spada and Mistral are available to counter threats ranging from attacking aircraft to TBMs (Theatre Ballistic Missiles). MBDA in Germany and Italy is also involved in the important transatlantic MEADS programme • Maritime Superiority The Company has a full range of air defence and ship or air launched anti-surface weapons in its maritime superiority portfolio. As a result, MBDA is involved in equipping the latest generation of frigates, destroyers and submarines such as FREMM, Horizon, Type 45, Scorpene and Barracuda • Battlefield Engagement Modern weapons need to offer the highest levels of precision and flexibility. From close combat support weapons such as Eryx and Milan ER to airborne anti-armour weapons such as Dual Mode Brimstone and PARS 3 LR, MBDA offers a range of network-enabled solutions for modern battlefield engagement 8 ground based air defence ground based air defence HIGH LEVEL AREA AIR DEFENCE/ATBM 12 ASTER 30 MEADS DEPLOYABLE LOW LEVEL AREA AIR DEFENCE 13 Facing an Increasingly Diverse Threat Air attack is and will continue to be the main threat that most countries need to defend against. Armed forces on the move need to be equipped with portable or highly mobile, easy to use systems that are effective at short and medium ranges against what has become a very diverse target set. Recent operations have shown that these systems need to be both offensive and defensive. They should be capable of providing offensive fire support to neutralise targets, ranging from snipers operating from buildings, to trucks and bunkers as well as carrying out the traditional defensive anti-armour role. To move against well-defended enemy forces, modern armies also need the support of air-launched ground attack capable of the highest levels of precision at both short and extended ranges. Most importantly, the future battlespace will place increasing emphasis on a fully networked military, with joint force assets integrated in real-time. This has led MBDA to define new weapons for the battlefield of today and tomorrow. 51 AIR-TO-AIR FOR HELICOPTERS 52 MISTRAL ATAM CAMOUFLAGE 53 MULTISORB® COUNTERMINING 54 DEDALE SOUVIM 2 55 LOITERING MUNITION 56 FIRE SHADOW battlefield engagement battlefield engagement ERYX Infantry weapon for short range combat MILAN ER Medium range weapon system for close combat operations • Ammunition weight: 13 kg • Ammunition length: 0.92 m • Missile calibre: 135 mm • Man-portable anti-tank and multirole fire support weapon against all ground targets • The latest generation high firepower weapon • New technologies, new • Ideal weapon for infantry platoons, rapid deployment forces, special forces and commandos • 95% of targets hit and more than 7,000 firings performed • Main characteristics: - In littoral warfare conditions, the anti-surface weapon system, together with its mission planning capability must be able to achieve correct target designation. Attacks from small, fast intruders are increasingly likely and the warship must be able to react with a short range, quick-reaction system. Submarines, be they in blue waters or the littoral, still pose a major threat to surface groups and a quick reaction all-weather response is essential. 74 75 NAVAL DEEP STRIKE Naval Deep Strike 76 SCALP NAVAL International waters offer the advantages of permanence and proximity to several areas of potential crisis at the same time. Strategically positioned naval forces, suitably equipped with a naval, deep strike capability, are able to deliver a strong deterrent message to a potential foe. Benefiting from the effort already invested in the highly acclaimed, air-launched STORM SHADOW / SCALP European cruise missile system, MBDA has demonstrated its ability to minimise cost and risk in the development of SCALP NAVAL. maritime superiority maritime superiority EXOCET MM40 BLOCK3 Future generation long range anti-ship missile system EXOCET AM39 Air-launched anti-ship missile • Open ocean, littoral warfare and coastal land attack capability • Maximum range: In excess of 180 km • Speed: High subsonic • Trajectory: Sea skimming • Launched from combat aircraft, maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) and medium or heavy weight helicopters at stand-off ranges outside enemy air defence • Missile weight: 670 kg • Missile length: 4.69 m • Missile diameter: 0.35 m • High level of operational flexibility with waypoints and land over-flight • Operational benefits: same as MM40 • Range: 50 -
