Production has already started at the new plant, which has the capacity to manufacture more than one million pumps per annum as well as 200 000 pump motors per year. The new Wilo site in Busan, which includes sales and administrative facilities, has room for future expansion. The German company has been manufacturing in South Korea since 1993. www.wilo.com Japan’s Torishima Pump Mfg Co Ltd has acquired a 50% interest in Fluid Equipment Development Co LLC (FEDCO), a US-based manufac- turer of high-pressure pumps and energy recovery devices. Headquartered in Monroe, Mich- igan, FEDCO designs and manu- factures fl uid machinery including turbochargers and pumps for the growing energy recovery market. These products are particularly suited to the reverse osmosis process in desalination systems. FEDCO will continue to be managed by Eli Oklejas. Last year, Torishima and FEDCO agreed to establish a joint venture, Advanced Pumps International LLC, to manufacture pumps for the oil & gas industry. www.torishima.co.jp www.fedco-usa.com Grundfos inaugurates new factory in Serbia Xylem acquires Pollmann Pumpen Grundfos has opened a new plant in Indjija, Serbia. Production is already up and running at the new 26 000 sq m facility which will manufacture circulator pumps and the Sololift2 lifting station for the Central and Eastern European markets. “We have set up four production lines in four months, which has only been possible because of our highly dedicated and skilled employees – both in Serbia and Denmark,” said Jim Toft Nielsen, general manager of Grundfos Serbia. Grundfos has been producing circulator pumps in Serbia in rented buildings since spring 2011. www.grundfos.com Xylem Inc has bought Pollmann Pumpen Ltd, a privately owned German dewatering technology and services company, for approxi- mately US$3 million. Headquartered in Bremen, Poll- mann Pumpen operates from three locations in the north and east of Germany. The company has a rental fl eet of approximately 300 diesel and electric powered dewatering pumps, serving customers across Germany. Poll- mann Pumpen has extensive dewatering expertise and technol- ogies, including specialized capa- bilities such as well-pointing. Xylem says that the acquisition of Pollmann Pumpen is part of the strategic expansion of its dewa- tering business designed to capi- talize on the growing demand for pump rental within the construc- tion, municipal, mining and indus- trial sectors across Europe. www.xyleminc.com www.pollmann-pumpen.de Turkish success for Weir Minerals Weir Minerals has secured £2.5 million in new orders in Turkey since opening its fi rst sales and service centre in the country late last year. The company opened a 600 sq m facility in the south of Istanbul province in October 2012 to provide enhanced customer support and faster delivery of equipment, spare parts and main- tenance services to its customers across the region.
