Rock and Soil improvement Techniques Bolts and anchors 783191 BEHAVlOUR OF DEAD ANCHORS SUEYECTED TO REPEATED AND ALTE~ATING LOADS H~, T H; Sivspalan, E; Senturk, A Grour~ Engng, VII, N3, April 1978, P28-34, 40 Reports tests showing that under eyllc loading anchors sl~ain non-recoverable movements, becoming mare stable as the test progresses, but that the life of an anchor is considerably reduced. 783192 MECHANICALANCHOR FOR USE IN SO~T OR HIGHLY FISSURED GROUND Drew, S Grouni Engng, Vll, N1, Jan 1978, P23-25 Describes the SURE anchor, in which segments or petals expand over a cone in the reverse direction to a conventional anchor until locked between the cone and a cup. Reports field tests in chalk and discusses the limits of applica- bility. 783193 USE OF ROCK ANCHORS AT TARBELA Int Water Power Dam Constr, V30, N2, Feb 1978, P44-~7 Discusses the use of nearly 600 rock anchors in the repair work to the floor of stilling basin no 3 at the Tarbela Dam, Pakistan. 783194 SENSITIVE VIBRATIE~3 WIRE ROCK BOLT LOAD GAGE Babcock, C 0 Trans Soc Min Engr AIME, V262, N~, Dec 1977, P293-299 A simple robust rock bolt load gauge was tested in the laboratory to define its characteristic behaviour and to obtain a meas~e of its perfor- mance. The gauge uses three vibrating wire sensors crimped 120 deg (2.09 rad) apart into the outer surface of a hollow cylindrical steel tube. The resonant frequencies of the wires change as the gauge is loaded. This change is read with a Creare meter developed for the Bureau of Mines on a previous contract to read borehole stress gauge results. A statistical analysis of data obtained defines the variables influencirg results. 783195 CHOOSING THE THREAD PROFILE FOR A ROOF BOLT Strygin, B I; Atamanov, V N SOy Min Sci, VI3, N1, Jan-Feb 1977, P67-88 Soil stabilisation 783196 SOIL STABILISATION FOR THE WOLFURT FREIG~ DEPOT Schumacher, E; Veder, C Grounl Engmg, VII, NI, Jan 1978, P2~..22,44 Describes stabillsation of the soil, consisting of densely-packed load-carryirg river deposits overlain by soft, sar~clayey silt up to a depth of llm, at a 350000sq m site in Austria. The stabilisation was by a vertical and hori- zontal drainage system as well as by surcharge loading. 783197 PG2ENfIALS OF LIME STABILIZATION OF L2rERITIC SOILS Ola, S A Erg~g Geol, VII, N4, Dec 1977, P305-317 The paper reviews llme stabillsation of lateritic soils and shows that all Nigerian lateritic soil from A-l-a soil to A-7-6 soil used in the Investigations Improved their ez~,'-1.neerlr~ charac- teristics substantially by the addition of llme. The plasticity indices of the soils were reduced
